I have read that we should not feed our alligators mealworms until they are full grown...and I was wondering why?

Thanks for your post, allie!
Welcome to the forums!
Do not feed mealworms to Alligator lizards until they are full grown because their small bodies had trouble digesting the tough shells that are 'chitinous', or chiten shells, which makes it hard for small, young lizards to digest. They will get impacted. Furthermore, there is not a mealworm small enough for hatchling and juvenile Alligator lizards.

Yes, a lot of lizards die from impaction due to the wrong food, and in some cases, the wrong substrate. Bearded dragons, water dragons, frilled dragons and many other trypes of lizards aer known of dying from mealworms. Any carnivorous lizard has a good chance of dying from being fed mealworms, or from being kept on the incorrect substrate. It's very sad

Two of mine died from feeding mealworms. I didnt know you werent supposed to feed them cause I didnt see the blazing diamond site...they ended up dying and I recovered after 2 years from it because I loved them and they were my babies. I got two more after 2 years and they are healthy adults now. I would never ever feed mealworms again whether mine were full grown or not........
